Oma Amos died Sunday morning, July 4, 2016, at the Golden Heart Care Home in Glendale, Maricopa County, Arizona from causes incident to her age. She was 89 years old. Oma was born on a Thursday, April 24, 1927, in Blanding, San Juan County, Utah to her parents, the late Thomas Jackson and Eva Idelphia (Oliver) Robison. Oma met Melvin L. Amos at the movie theater in McNary, Arizona and married on September 25, 1944, at the Maricopa County Courthouse.During Oma's lifetime, not only was she the mother of seven, she also fed lunch to the many children of the reservation. She served as manager of the cafeteria for many public schools in and around Whiteriver, Arizona. Being a cafeteria manager, and her ability to cook for large numbers of people, provided her and Melvin the opportunity for many years to cook and get to know the hunters/guides and skinners of the Trophy Elk Hunt at Paradise Creek Camp.Oma enjoyed all that the White Mountains had to offer. Her greatest joy in life was being surrounded by friends and family. She and Melvin traveled all across the United States visiting them. They could be seen at the casinos playing the slots and catching up with everyone.Oma and Melvin's seven children are: the late Elaine Amos-Nielson (Warren) of Tucson, Arizona, the late Thomas L. Amos of Queen Creek, Arizona, Donovan C. Amos (Catherine) of Globe, Arizona, Diedra A. Amos-Lee (Bill) of Globe, Arizona, M. Rob Amos (SuAnne) of Glendale, Arizona, the late Dennis L. Amos of Whiteriver, Arizona and Debra K. Amos-Guzman (Rudy) of Tucson, Arizona. She is also grandmother to fifteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren as well as great-great-grandchildren.The public visitation and viewing for Oma will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, July 8, 2016, at Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, Arizona. The funeral service will begin at 12 Noon, Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the Fort Apache Branch Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 107 E. Walker in Fort Apache, Arizona. The concluding service and interment will immediately follow at the Whiteriver Cemetery.
