Barbara Jane McCartney died Wednesday morning, June 22, 2016 at the Hinkson Assisted Living House in St. Johns, Apache County, Arizona following a lengthy illness. She was 81 years old. Barbara was born on a Thursday, November 1, 1934 in Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio to her parents, the late Homer and Frances (Osborne) Hatton.Though reared in Ohio, Barbara moved to California and lived there for many years. In 1985, she moved to Lakeside, Arizona and began a great chapter in her life. Barbara's passion in life was children. She didn't care who's they were, she loved and cared for kids. From 1986 to 1998, Barbara did in home daycare and was a "nanny" to many children. In 1998, she became a Special Needs Guide on the buses for the Blue Ridge School Unified School District; a position she cherished until her retirement in June of 2007. "Barbara really loved her Blue Ridge family!" Barbara was a woman who never spent an idle moment. She loved crafting, gardening, music, and was a voracious reader. Her favorite meal was a green corn tamale from El Rancho in Pinetop! Those living in the White Mountain area, who were blessed with the privilege of knowing and loving her, will miss her greatly. She was their friend and they were hers and she, in turn, loved them all so very dearly.Barbara is survived by her daughter, Christine Prenant and by her son, Stephen Marcum. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia.The public visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, Arizona. The graveside service and interment will begin 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 1, 2016 at the St. Johns Cemetery, 405 West 4th North in St. Johns, Arizona.
