Shirley Ann Campbell

Shirley Ann Campbell passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones, June 21, 2016, at the age of 61.  She was born December 28, 1954, in Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico to the late Harvey Carr and Nina Jewell (Thompson) Tedford.  She married Stephen James Campbell in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 28, 1975.Shirley grew up in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and upon graduating high school in 1972, attended Ricks College for two years, before enlisting in the US Navy, where she served as a dental hygienist.  After completing three years of honorable service, she left the US Navy to start a family and complete her education.  She then moved to Orem, Utah, to attend Brigham Young University.  She graduated with a degree in Speech Pathology in 1981 and, 3 years later, earned another Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.One of her greatest passions was found in the classroom.  She dedicated over thirty years of her life to educating, inspiring and uplifting elementary students.  Her ceaseless energy and constant commitment to making her lessons unique and her classroom inviting, will be long remembered.  She was know as a "whirly bird" at her school, as she was constantly on the go and spoke from her heart.Shirley was a lover of nature and was often found basking in the glow of the sun while tending to her garden.  She looked forward to traveling each summer to different parts of the Rocky Mountains with her family, specifically her grandchildren, where her love of the natural world was shared with them.Shirley was a giving soul who gave every ounce of love to meeting the needs of her children.  Eventually this devotion was seen in her relationship with her grandchildren.  Especially her oldest granddaughter, Cody, who accompanied her on many trips and spent many summer months with her "Nana."She will be dearly missed.Shirley is survived by her husband of forty years, Stephen James Campbell; her three children:  Eric Scott Yazzie-Campbell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kimberly Ann Campbell-Kahler of Flagstaff, Arizona, Brett Alan Campbell of Flagstaff, Arizona; brother, Alan Tedford of Carlsbad, New Mexico; sisters:  Debra Tedford of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Jeanne Tedford Murry of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and her beloved grandchildren:  Cody Ann Campbell-Langdon, Orion Gray Kahler, Mica Wilde Kahler, Lakota Kim Yazzie-Campbell and Seneca Lyn Yazzie-Campbell.A special service celebrating her beautiful life will begin 6:00 P.M., Thursday, July 21, 2016 at The Gathering Place, 4656 Buck Springs Road in the Pinetop Lakes Country Club in Pinetop, Arizona.  A light reception with refreshments will immediately follow the service.  Her remains will be scattered in southern Utah at her most beloved places.Memorial contributions, in her name to the White Mountain S.A.F.E. Box 1890, Pinetop, Arizona 85935 or online at wmsafehouse.org  have been suggested by her family.Arrangements are being cared for by Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel in Show Low, Arizona.
