Adron Thomas Locklear

June 15, 1913 — May 23, 2016

Adron Thomas Locklear "AT", was born on the high plains of northeastern New Mexico on the 15th day of June 1913. In the back corner of a dug out dirt floor house he met the world with a shout and was laid in the arms of his mother Eva. AT grew up a red-head with baby blue eyes and freckles. He was the oldest of three younger brothers and a sister. He was on the back of a horse before he could walk and knew his way around a wagon and team like the back of his hand. At eight years old under the mighty arms of a Mesquite tree he heard the still small voice of God and was called to preach liberty unto the captives and proclaim the Blood Stained Cross of Calvary, to all who would know the truth.  AT met the love of his life Wanda Telitha Huntley and they married on June 1, 1939.  She was 22 days from her 18th birthday and he was 25. He noticed how pretty, kind and quiet she was. With tears in his eyes he stated, "she was a wonderful woman!” They were married for 71 years and two months. He lived through the Great Depression and FDR as well as the Dust Bowl. He drove a variety of vehicles from a wagon as a boy, on to their first family vehicle a Model T Ford, all the way up to sitting on the heated seats of a Lincoln Continental with smart technology. He believed kerosene was the cure-all for any ailment. He could play the fiddle, loved to sing, and could recite Shakespearian poetry up to his dying day. He knew the reality of hard work and was no stranger to calloused hands. He did whatever was necessary to provide for his family and would lend a helping hand whenever needed. If ever there was a question about, "the olden days," great dad was a valuable resource that would tell colorful stories of his raising on the farm and the yearly struggle preparing for the winter ahead. He knew what true poorness was, times when food was hard to come by but would be sure to note that the Lord always provided what was necessary. He saw the days of community good when neighbors helped one another and reached for the other's success. He was a Patriot and believed in American values and saw the beauty in her freedoms.Today AT leaves behind two children: Thomas Eugene and his wife Pat Locklear, Wanda JoAnne and her husband David Leon Garvin, five grandchildren, Kenneth Leon Garvin, Marita Kay Slack, Thomas Kent Locklear, Curtis Wayne Garvin and Wanda JaRee Bowers, thirteen great grandchildren, Ronnie, Jennifer, Stephanie, Dakota, Kenneth Jr., Jered, Cierra, Sarah, Brady, Kelly, Emily, Reese, and Brennan, as well as many great great grandchildren. Of all his triumphs and strengths, his desire to please and follow God Almighty reigned supreme in his life. He knew Jesus by the incredible moments of spiritual joy and biblical truths. He knows Jesus now as a reality of his new life. At 102 years and 11 months old he was a man to be admired and will be missed by many.   For friends and family of AT, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at 2:00 at the family residence, 3217 Garvin Hill Rd, Overgaard, Arizona.
