Harriet Carver Huey Crozier, 94, passed away December 31st, 2015, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Dewayne Applegate. She was born in Louisa, Lawrence County, Kentucky, on September 14, 1921 to Robert Garnett Huey and Hallie Esther Cheap Huey. After graduating high school, she took two years of college before going on to three years of nursing school at Christ’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was there that she was nicknamed Hattie. That was the name we all knew her by. After taking the State Boards she enlisted in the Army as a nurse and became 2nd Lt. during WWII. She also served in the Airforce, flying patients to different hospitals. She moved to McNary in January of 1947 to work at the McNary Hospital. It wasn’t too long after that that she became the Head Nurse at the McNary Hospital. She met Arthur Crozier (deceased) and married him 7 months later, on August 4, 1947. They lived in McNary in an apartment under the McNary Theater that “Art” (Arthur) managed. Their son, Arthur Garnett Crozier (deceased), was born August 20, 1950, and their daughter Kimberly Crozier Applegate was born on December 27, 1953. They moved to Pinetop in 1960. She helped set up the Navapache Regional Medical Center in Show Low, AZ in 1970. She was made the First Director of Nursing Services and worked in that position until she retired. After she and Art retired, they opened a family restaurant, Crozier’s Fine Foods in 1971. They sold the restaurant in 1985 and pursued a life of travel until Arthur Jr.’s death in 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Dewayne) Applegate; grandchildren: Ryan Applegate; Aaron (Cami) Applegate and their children, Denver, Jaycee, Colter, Tali and Sterling; Tricia (Travis) Kraft and their children Tanyon, Taydem and Tallen; Amy (Jeff) Kuhl and their children Jayd, Zoe, and Zackery; and Kayla Applegate. The funeral services will be announced at a later date.
