In loving memory of Broadus Bones, born on April 13, 1927, at Ft. Huachuca, AZ to the late Charles Bones and the late Maria (Quintero) Bones. He entered into eternal rest on October 7, 2015, in Canyon Day, AZ. Broadus was a veteran of the American Campaign and served with the U.S. Army Infantry and Air Force. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corp as a reservist. He was proud of his military history. In 1987 he retired as Chief Fire Control Dispatcher from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Branch of Forestry. He obtained his Associates Degree from Northland Pioneer College in Fire Science. In earlier years he enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, bowling, playing baseball and basketball. A voracious reader, he enjoyed reading materials on Apache history, as his father was an Apache Scout. His favorite magazine was Field & Stream. However, his passion was the Bible which he assisted in translating into the Apache language. True to his Lutheran faith he loved to share the Good News with anyone interested. His contribution to the community involved participating in the following: Whiteriver School Board member, White Mountain Apache Tribal Fair and Rodeo Commissioner, Whiteriver Lutheran Church Council member, Whiteriver Lutheran Sunday School teacher, Whiteriver Lutheran Train Master for Boy's Pioneer, Whiteriver Fire Chief (volunteer), and Whiteriver American Legion Post 60 Commander and Chaplain. Survivors include his Children; Berlinda (Charlie) Stevens, Beverly (Reuben) Kessay, Barbara (Andrew) Kane, Berta Bones, Bettina Bones, Brenda (Ken) Sungino, Bridget Bones, Bobby (Dena) Bones, Sr.; numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren; Nieces, Shirley (Jack) Fowler, Arlene Di Valentino, Carol Lane, Cheryl Harvey, Pearly (Joe) Harvey, & Virginia Bones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bones, and sons: Bruce, Broderick, Bryce, Brando, and Bailey Bones; parents and brother William Bones. A Wake will begin on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 10:00 am in Canyon Day, 438 Bear Canyon Road. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Whiteriver Open Bible Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at the Whiteriver Cemetery.
