James Ryan Hensley

July 9, 1976 — September 29, 2015

James Ryan Hensley (Jamie) lost his final battle with cancer September 29, 2015. His family was blessed to have Jamie for 39 years, he was born on July 9,1976. He leaves behind his parents, Concie and Randy; brothers, Devlon and Jason; sister-in-law, Aurora; nephew, Jason Randall, niece, Alyssa; Godmother, Concie Candelaria and many loving relatives who will miss his smile and sense of humor. Jamie was exactly like every other person alive. He had his quirks, his faults, his ways that a lot of people may not have liked or agreed with. The difference with Jamie and most other people was, he accepted himself, he was happy in his own skin and did not feel that he had to apologize or pretend to be something he wasn't. If you could not like Jamie as he was, he felt that was your right, but he was not going to worry or fret about it. He knew that he was loved by his family and true friends and that was enough for him. Jamie's family would like to thank the people from Summit Cancer Center for their unwavering support, their compassion and their obvious love shown to Jamie during the 3 years that Jamie fought his disease. Especially Debbie who qualifies as a genuine Angel and will forever by in our hearts. We were blessed as a family to have his brothers and nephew here with us to help with the monumental tasks that come with battling the last stages of cancer. Devlon, Jason B. and Jason R. may not be angels, but they are precious to us for the literal and emotional support. Speaking for Jamie, his family would also like to thank his Uncle Gavin and Aunt Sandra for their unmitigated devotion to his happiness and comfort especially at the end of his fight. They have done more than anyone could ever expect to help Jamie through the hardest part of this journey and while they were always a part of his life, they have gained a very special place in our hearts. There are many members of Jamie's family that deserve our thanks and appreciation, they know who they are and know that we love them very much. There is one that gave more than any person should have to give during Jamie's illness. Everyone expects Mothers to care and nurture their children. Jamie's Mom went to a whole other level of devotion to help Jamie in his fight. He never missed an appointment unless complications caused him to be in the hospital, his medicine was on time and even when he didn't want to, he stuck to a regimen that kept him alive 3 years longer than they expected. There is no doubt that Jamie would have succumbed much sooner and would have suffered a great deal more without the support of his Mom. He trusted her completely, so completely that as he was fighting for his very breath, she looked into his eyes and told him that it was okay, he could rest now. He took one more breath and slipped away to join his Godfather (Paul) and his Grandpa Gilbert as well as his cousin Joyce who passed away 2 days before him, in heaven, where we know he is at a rave and enjoying a smoke of the "good" stuff with his Grandpa. Private services were held. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
