Leona Ray Frazier

June 20, 1929 — July 9, 2015

Leona Ray Frazier died Thursday afternoon, July 9, 2015, at Hospice of The Valley's Dobson House in Chandler, Maricopa County, Arizona following a lengthy illness. She was 86 years old. Leona was born on June 20, 1929 (though she celebrated her birthday July 20th of every year) in Heavener, Le Flore County, Oklahoma to her parents, the late Sam Cecil and Ruth (Jeffrey) Pollock. She moved to Arizona in 1951, in her early 20s. Throughout her long life, Leona was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her family. She taught them, by example, what being a Christian truly was. Hers was a life spent in the service of others and she will long be remembered as a great volunteer and humanitarian. Leona knew of the importance and great need for blood donors. Over the course of many years, she donated, literally, gallons of her own blood at various blood drives within her community. No one will really ever know of the number of lives that she helped save through this simple act. Also, Leona spent countless hours volunteering at the Heber/Overgaard Senior Center. She enjoyed running errands for others in need and always looked forward to a friendly visit with those special people. They truly helped to make her life a happy one. Leona was a faithful member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Overgaard. She appreciated the many friendships that she developed with the members of her church family. She truly followed the Lord's admonition to "Love One Another" as she served those within her community and knew that, by so doing, she was "only in the service of her God." When she wasn't too busy running around town, Leona loved to sit and enjoy a good game of SKIPBO. This incredibly giving woman will be greatly missed by everyone whom as had the privilege to call her "friend." Leona is survived by her 5 children: Sam Hover of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mary Hover Frazier (Larry) of Mesa, Arizona, Judy Hover Halston of Mesa, Arizona, Tom Frazier of Heber, Arizona, Jamie Frazier of Heber, Arizona; 1 sister, Lorene Nash of Kiowa, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude H. Frazier in June of 2000 and by 3 siblings: Jack "J.W." Pollock, Oliver Pollock and Ida Belle Pollock. The funeral service will (TENTATIVELY) begin 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the First Southern Baptist Church of Overgaard, 2727 Church Lane in Overgaard, Arizona. The concluding service and interment will immediately follow at the Heber Cemetery. Please call Owens Livingston Mortuary for a confirmation of the time the funeral service is to begin. (928) 537-2141. Memorial contributions in Leona's name to: The Women's Auxiliary of the First Southern Baptist Church have been suggested by her family.
