Max Kenneth Long, age 88, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at his home in St. Johns, Arizona. He was born February 23, 1927 in Tipton, Iowa to Samuel Bruce Long and Velma Elizabeth Bower Long. Max was very active in all of the military organizations and with the Masons and El Zaribah Shrine. He served in the military for 38 years; most of the time as a recruiter in Phoenix, Arizona. He loved to hunt and fish and particularly enjoyed working with children. Max dressed up and played Santa Claus in several of the stores on the White Mountains. Max and Dorothy were married for 68 years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was just a good person. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy. 2 children: Connie Long and Barbara Rupp. 2 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren. A brother: Monty Long. 4 sisters: Patricia Wachal, Jacqueline Riegert, Mavis Spry and Elizabeth Bentrott. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the White River Masonic Lodge, 741 E. Whipple in Show Low, AZ. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to White Mountain Clothe-a-Child or El Zaribah Shrine.
