Tawna Louise Flake-Posegate, 55, passed away on June 9, 2014. She was born on June 12, 1959 in Mesa, Arizona. She is the oldest daughter of Sanford DeWitt and Bertha Louise Flake. She spent her growing up years in Snowflake, Arizona, and graduated from Snowflake high School in 1976. She started a musical career early in her life under the tutelage of her Uncle Melvin Dewitt and gained a lifelong love for the violin. In High School she was awarded the J. Rufus Crandell award, an award given to the top musician of the school. Tawna often accompanied her father, Sank, on his guitar while she played the violin. They harmonized beautifully and were favorite entertainers around town. After high school she attended college. Because of her strong testimony and a deep love for her Savior, Tawna had the desire to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was called to serve in the Finland Helsinki Mission. Tawna loved the traditions of the Finnish people and brought many traditions home and made them a part of her life from then on. One such tradition was lighting candles at the cemetery on Christmas Eve for loved ones who had previously passed on. Upon return from her mission she met David Peterson, an equally talented musician, they combined their musical talents and blessed the lives of many with countless performances and recordings. She has won many awards for her fiddling and was even able to play the Orange Blossom Special with Rex Allen. In 2005 she met her future husband and love of her life, Dominick Eugene Posegate. They married on April 21, 2006, in the Snowflake Arizona Temple. They made Mesa, Arizona their home. Tawna loved everyone she met and only recognized the good in people. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Tawna has a deep love for her pioneer heritage, her hometown of Snowflake, and the many ancestors who have preceded her in death. She was a very loyal and faithful daughter and friend. She is survived by her husband Nick, her father and mother Sank & Louise, her brothers Dallas DeWitt, and Shea Daniel (Yvette), her sister Lillienne Hiatt (Kyle), and a foster sister Rosemary Jakubs. She loved her nieces and nephews and considered them her own children and called them as such. She is preceded in death by her sister Melanie and nephew Kyle Dane Hiatt, and countless pets.
