Sonya Yormaine Medrano

November 17, 1935 — March 26, 2014

Sonya Yormaine Medrano passed away on March 26, 2014 in Scottsdale, AZ from natural causes. Sonya was born on November 17, 1935 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Adrid Kit Medrano and Elaine Bernice Thompson Medrano (also a Show Low resident) and was a member of the Comanche Nation. Sonya moved to Show Low in 1981 to join her mother, grandmother and family, where she raised her two boys, and worked for TransNation Title. If you knew Sonya, you knew that the lost souls of the stray kitties and dogs of the world were her passion. If she only could, she would have saved them all. The love of animals and the beauty of nature and the abundance of spring are the great gift she shared with everyone, especially her children. She is survived by her three children, Kelly Germaine Fields Pellegrino of Los Angeles, CA; Michael Ray Squire, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC; and Kory Schade Squire of Phoenix; and her brother, Hank Felix, of El Paso, Texas. Sonya had five grandchildren: Frank Pellegrino, Veronica, Jacob, and Emma Squire, and Elizabeth Latham. Sonya was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a dear friend to many and was one of those rare people who kept in touch, called and wrote letters. A service will be held for Sonya on April 1, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Elks Lodge in Show Low, AZ. She will be placed to rest at the Little Washita Comanche Indian Cemetery in Fletcher, OK next to her brother, Adrid John Medrano and with her great grandparents, Abilene and Francesca Medrano. The family would also like to thank Richard Bilbie, Betsy Buttyan, Corianne Wiant, and Susie Wood for all of the help and support they have provided to Sonya over the last several years. Last but not least, we would like to thank her best friend, Sharon Wallace, for everything she has done for Sonya over the past 50 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Pet Allies in Show Low, AZ in Sonya's name.
