Cora Mae Meyers

March 3, 1931 — February 15, 2014

On February 15, 2014, a very dear and beautiful person, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and my best buddy passed from this life into the waiting arms of Our Dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She came into this world on a cold and windy day on a small ranch in the area of Walsenburg, Colorado on March 3, 1931. Cora, AKA Mom, probably hit the floor running and checking every little thing over and fixing what was in need of repair. Mom was ultimately raised in Trinidad, Colorado until she was enrolled in a Catholic Boarding School for Girls in Raton, New Mexico. After graduation from there, she attended Trinidad Community College. While there she played the clarinet in the marching band and classical music on the piano whenever she could find one not in use. Shortly after graduation from there she moved to Phoenix, Arizona after the war. She lived with her brother, Gene Schooler and wife Rowena, whose maiden name was Strucken from Globe, Arizona. Mom moved into a boarding house that was owned by the Seiba family. While there mom met Mary Ann Seiba and became very good friends. In time mom was the 4th girl hired by Motorola and worked at the first Motorola facility on North Central in Phoenix. At a later date, she met a guy at Motorola facility on 56th Street in Phoenix. He was struck by a thunderbolt and fell in love and married 6 weeks later at St. Mary's church. Later we temporarily separated by mom's passing while bearing her cross caused by Alzheimer's. Mom attempted to make a break away from her wheel chair and while trying to run again, she fell and broke her hip on February 14, Valentine's Day, and left us on February 15 at 8:40PM. Mom's passing has created a very large void in our lives filled with sadness, but our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ made a promise to us; "Those that believe in him will have everlasting life in his father's kingdom and will have it abundantly," and so we can look forward with hope to be together again. Mom was met with open arms by our Father in Heaven and by her dear mother, Jenny Schooler, half-sister, Mable, brothers, Gene and Bill Schooler, both survivors of World War II in the Pacific Theater, sister-in-law, Rowena Schooler, our beloved daughter, Janet Christine Watson and her husband Ronald Watson formerly of Show Low, Arizona. Mom is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Don Meyers formerly of Pinetop, Arizona. Mom also left behind sons, Dallas and Mark Meyers, daughter-in-law, Valerie Meyers, wife of Mark and our daughter, Denise Fretz. Mom is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Rose Jo Schooler, wife of Bill Schooler and many nieces and nephews. Mom graduated from ASU with a BA and MA from the College of Education. Mom taught 5th grade at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grade School in Scottsdale for 27 years. Mom loved to fish on the East Fork of the Black River and Big Lake. We fished for bass on Roosevelt and San Carlos Lakes and she was my best fishing buddy. She baited her own hooks and rigged her own bass rods. Then, heck, she even helped me clean and filet them and cooked them for us on open fires or camp stoves. She helped put chains on pickups in the snow, mud and rain; put up tents in the rain, and watched water run under tent walls. She washed diapers in buckets and dried them with campfires. She went hunting with me once up near Greenback Ranch in the Tonto Basin, with no lunches or water with us, and her feet with blisters because of new bootsand she was not a happy camper. We took care of and helped each other to the very end, 60+ years in the rain, snow, mud and dust. No complaints or snivels, we laughed and shed tears at times together. There were great and fun times also hard times but there was always love, and life was good! I just want everyone to know what I was blessed with. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to an Alzheimer's Research Center, Hospice, Danny Thomas' Children Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, Wounded Warrior's Program or the Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Pinetop. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00AM Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 1915 S Penrod Lane, Pinetop with a visitation at 10:30AM. Inurnment to follow in the Angel's Rest Columbarium. Thank you for your prayers, words of encouragement and your kindness. Be kind and love one another and may God bless you. From the Meyers family.
