In loving memory of Hugh Lee, Sr. who was born February 20, 1951 in Carrizo, Arizona. He passed away on January 22, 2014 in Whiteriver, Arizona, the son of the late Pearl Tortice Lee and Grant Lee, Sr. He attended Show Low Elementary, graduated from Alchesay High School, he was member of the National Honor Society, class president, held a leadership role, attended the All Indian Upward Bound program at Arizona State University. He had a passion for photography, an avid fisherman, hunter, basketball player, participated in track, horseman, roper, accountant, and all other kinds of hobbies. Hugh served his country in the United States Army beginning in 1971. He was drafted, then honorably discharged due to a medical condition. He went to Haskell Junior College in 1975. He was a grader at Reidhead Lumber Company. He went to Northern Arizona University. After NAU, he began his career with the White Mountain Apache Tribe, he held the following positions Tribal Treasurer, FATCO Comptroller, Hon Dah Home Center General Manager and Comptroller for the White Mountain Apache Tribe. Hugh will forever be missed by the White Mountain Apache Tribe as he was a great asset to the tribe. He held humility, fortitude, compassion, trustworthy and protocol in high regard. He needed no accolades and he also shied away from the lime light. Hugh loved all his children very much and will leave a deep hole in all of his families hearts. He is survived by his father: Grant Lee, Sr.; his companion: Verla Pusher; his children: Marie H. Chatlin, Nannette P. Lee, Ira H. Lee, Ernestine S. Lee, Hugh Lee Jr., Harold K. Lee, Hyrum B. Lee, and Hughlyn Rodriguez; Verla's daughter, Elisabeth Quintero. 7 grandchildren: Teanna J. Young, Malia S. Young, Jakob T. Young, Keian H. DeClay, Dillon A. Nasingoetewa, Mason Rodriguez and Allison Rodriguez. Brothers and sisters: Phoebe L. Nez, Gwendolyn Numkena, Michael Lee, Isaiah Lee, Grant Lee, Jr., Holyan Lee, Gina Webster, Naveen Dazen, Gwendena Real Bird and Rhiannon Lee. A wake will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 beginning at 10:00 am at the Pusher family residence at 5901 N. 1st Ave. in North Fork. The funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Fort Apache Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building. Burial will follow at the Manzanita Cemetery in East Fork. Services were handled thru Owens Livingston Mortuary-White Mountain Chapel of Show Low, Arizona.
