Joyce Eileen Thrasher, 85, died January 8, 2014 in Show Low, Navajo County, Arizona, after a prolonged illness that robbed her of her mind, but never her spirit. She was born on September 29, 1928 in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona, to Malcom Burris and Sara Louise Olvey. Joyce spent her early years in Phoenix and moved to Los Angeles, California as a teenager where she met Dwight "Whitey" Thrasher. After a two-year courtship, due to WWII and her mother, they married June 23, 1946 in Los Angeles. They were later sealed for Time and All Eternity on June 11, 1956 in the Los Angeles Temple. By sheer coincidence, they found their way to Show Low, where they decided to raise their family. Joyce raised her children to love, honor, and respect those around them. She was loved by those she taught and associated within the Show Low School District, and those she taught in the Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joyce is survived by her husband Dwight Thrasher; four children, Larry (Jean) Thrasher of Pinetop, Arizona, Eileen (Bart) Hackemack of Cypress, California, David (Lisa) Thrasher of Vernon, Arizona and Michael (Cherri) Thrasher of Show Low, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Thrasher and granddaughter, Heather Thrasher Cluff. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Show Low Downtown Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing will be held at 9:00 A.M. prior to the services. Concluding Services and Interment will be held at the Show Low Cemetery.
