Charles "Bud" Miltenberger died Sunday morning, December 8, 2013 at his home in Show Low, Arizona following a lengthy illness. He was 76 years old. Bud was born in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio on August 25, 1937 to the late Raymond F. and Dorothy L. (Crowe) Miltenberger. Growing up in Tucson, he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955. He served in Korea, twice, following the Korean War before receiving his honorable discharge. In 1959, Bud enrolled at Northern Arizona University. He soon returned to Tucson and completed his Associate's Degree in 1968 and then went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Arizona. Bud worked in Arizona law enforcement for five decades. He joined the Tucson Police Department in 1960 and fast-tracked to the detective division by 1963, serving in burglary and narcotics divisions before advancing to supervisor of patrol, records, evidence and crime prevention before landing in sex crimes as supervisor. He moved to the Pima County Attorney's Office in 1981 as criminal investigator and retired in 2000 as the Bad Check Supervisor. Following his retirement, Bud moved to the White Mountains. Even in his retirement, Bud was never one to be idle. From 2002 until 2012, he was a detective for the Pinetop-Lakeside Police Department. His training through the years included FBI academies and focused investigation topics. He was a member of the Arizona Homicide Investigators Association, the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators and was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In March 2012, after 50 years of dedicated and faithful service, Bud was able to "completely" retire from law enforcement. Not only was he a dedicated cop, Bud was a devoted humanitarian and a great man. Bud is survived by his wife, Kathleen "Kathy" Miltenberger of Show Low, Arizona; daughter, Laurie Exline (Tommy Roland) of Show Low, Arizona; son, Brian Miltenberger of Panama City, Florida; step-son, Jon (Tami) Bailey of San Antonio, Texas; 3 grandsons: Derek (Aren) Pace, Keegan Bailey, Jaxson Bailey; 1 great-granddaughter, Reagan Emily Pace; his twin sister, Charlene Grimm of Tucson, Arizona; brother, Ron (Cathy) Miltenberger of Colorado; sister, Sandy (Howard) Campbell of Tucson, Arizona and his sister-in-law, Toni Miltenberger of Tucson, Arizona. Bud is also survived by his much loved nieces and nephews as well as hundreds and hundreds of friends. Along with his parents, Bud was preceded in death by a brother, Don Miltenberger in 1993 and by his step-son, Steven Kopf in 2007. The memorial service for Bud will begin 1:00 P.M., Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Community Presbyterian Church, 1940 S. Penrod Road in Pinetop, Arizona.
