Valerie M. Porter, passed away suddenly on Oct. 19, 2013 due to injuries resulting from an all-terrain vehicle accident in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, while vacationing with family. Valerie Mary King, born Dec. 17, 1949 in Prestatyn, North Wales, was the eldest daughter of the late Victor and Ethel Hallwood King. Valerie left her homeland in North Wales to move to the United States, where she married William Jack Porter on May 1, 1970 in Heber, AZ. After USAF tours of duty in Texas, Germany, and England, the Porter family returned to Heber, where Valerie's life was focused on serving people around her, even those she did not know. She served her community as a steadfast member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She will be remembered for many years of work in the Rim Community Library, as well as her work with local school children in the libraries of Mountain Meadows Primary School and Capps Elementary School. She dedicated her life to her family and on-going genealogy work. Valerie is survived by her husband, William Jack, and eight children: Stephen Troy Porter (Melani Spear) of Mesa, AZ, William Brandon Porter (Heidi Schulz) of Heber, AZ, Timothy Jay Porter (Stephanie Whiting) of Gilbert, AZ, Damon Porter (Julie Stewart) of Gilbert, AZ , Nicolas John Porter of Phoenix, AZ, Ryan King Porter (Faith Rice) and Valerie Nicole Porter (Jed Reidhead) of Heber, AZ , and Brett Stuart Porter of Mesa, AZ; also 28 grandchildren, and siblings Sheila Winkelspecht (Thom) of Florida, Steven King (Nicola) of Wales, Catherine King-Fuller of Utah, and Janet Williams (Stuart) of Wales. Family and friends are invited to an evening to remember Valerie on Friday, Nov. 1, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at the Heber LDS Chapel. The funeral service is on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10:00 am at the Heber LDS Chapel, followed by a graveside service at the Heber Cemetery.
