Arthur Salvador Chavez

October 23, 1936 — October 25, 2013

Arthur Salvador Chavez died Friday, October 25, 2013 at his home in Show Low, Arizona following a sudden illness. He was 77 years old. Arthur was born in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California to his parents, the late Sal and Mary (Quesada) Chavez. Art was a brilliant man who knew the value of having a good education. After receiving a Master's Degree in Engineering, he began a long and successful career as an aerospace engineer, working for Northrup Drummond in Los Angeles. He was a key man in several top secret projects and his help was instrumental in building the STEALTH bombers of the late 1980's and throughout the 1990's. Arthur was a man who lived to serve the needs of others. As a United States Army veteran, Art was a member of Show Low's Veterans of Foreign War. He, too, was very involved with Show Low's Elks' Lodge and participated in numerous service projects throughout the year and was a member of the Show Low Moose Lodge. He also had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus and, daily, sought to do His will. He was an active member of St. Rita's Catholic Church. Many throughout the communities of the White Mountains will miss his giving spirit and gentle smile. Art also enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes. He loved building model airplanes and gave many, from his collection, to others as gifts. He was a gun enthusiast and loved to shoot one whenever the opportunity presented itself. He loved living in the southwest and truly appreciated the beauty that he found in the White Mountains as anything "Western" made him happy. Arthur Salvador Chavez is survived by a cousin, Joe Caudillo of Show Low, Arizona; 2 nieces and 1 nephew. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Chavez and by his brother, David Chavez. The Recitation of The Holy Rosary and the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 8, 2013 at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 1400 E. Owens in Show Low, Arizona. Services are being cared for by Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel of Show Low, Arizona.
