Susan Elaine Chalfin Smith, 61, passed from this earth Oct. 26. She was born May 16, 1952, to Floyd and Tessie Smith in Lima, Ohio. Susan married the love of her life and very best friend Dwayne Smith on Nov. 15, 1970. She graduated from cosmetology school and became a hairdresser. Susan and Dwayne, along with their three children, moved to Pinetop in 1980, leaving Susan's beloved Ohio to find something new. She was employed at GJ's Pizza, where she enjoyed working with Gary and Claudia Keicher. She later became a guard at White Mountain Summer Homes. In 1987, Susan was hired as a customer service representative at Arizona Water Company. She became family to her coworkers, who enjoyed her fabulous sense of humor and devoted friendship for over 20 years. Susan retired from Arizona Water Company in 2007. Susan and Dwayne enjoyed spending time with family and friends. They hosted fun-filled Christmases, Fourth of Julys and Super Bowl parties. Susan welcomed all to her home and treated everyone like family. If you ever left there hungry, it was nobody's fault but your own. She continued the Sunday family dinner tradition with a huge spread every week. They were involved in their children's sporting activities and snowmobiling. They had a love for the water and boating. Susan and Dwayne enjoyed many trips to Lake Powell with their jet skis towed behind their 26-foot Cuddy Cabin Sea Ray. Most recently, it was her six grandchildren that brought her the greatest joy. She has always baked her sugar cookies with them, among other things, but is famous for her sugar cookies. Susan was so very proud of each of her grandchildren and their accomplishments. Susan's children and grandchildren will keep Susan's memory alive with everything Susan loved from Halloween to scary movies to her love of every color purse imaginable. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, "granny" and friend. Susan, with her outgoing and sometimes loud personality, will forever be missed and never forgotten. Susan leaves behind her husband of 43 years, Dwayne Smith; mother Tessie Chalfin; children: Nikki Smith, Krista (Kevin) Dugan and Bryan (Kerrie) Smith; sisters Bonnie, Barb (Terry) Castle, Patty Isles and brother Tony (Ginger) Chalfin. Susan had six grandchildren who she loved to call her babies: Jacob, Shelby, Kallie, Tucker, Jocelyn and Justin; and many nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Chalfin and mother and father-in-law Ruby and Glen Smith. In lieu of flowers, an account has been established at National Bank. A celebration of her life will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at 5036 Forest Ave. in Lakeside
