Dorothy Louise Syer died late Friday night, October 25, 2013 under the watchful and tender care of The Carriage House in Snowflake, Navajo County, Arizona. She was 89 years old. Dorothy was born on Wednesday, September 24, 1924 in Mays Landing, Atlantic County, New Jersey to her parents, the late Wesley Risley and Lucy Mary (Stock) Sharp. Not only being born in Mays Landing, she was reared and attended school there as well. Following her education, she worked in a sewing factory in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In October of 1942, her life forever changed when she married her forever sweetheart, Jack Leslie Syer in Atlantic City. Dorothy and Jack made their home in Atlantic City and gave birth to their first daughter, Carol, before moving to Detroit, Michigan where their second daughter, Joan, was born. In 1956, the Syer family moved to Garden City, Michigan where Dorothy worked as a cashier in a local drug store. During their time in Garden City, she became an active member of The Order of The Eastern Star, Kindness #523. In 1985, they moved to Montana to begin their retirement. In 2000, Jack passed away and, the following year, Dorothy moved to Show Low, Arizona. Dorothy is survived by her 2 daughters: Carol A. (Caiaphas) Nunnally of Show Low, Arizona, Joan L. (Paul) Andren of Whitehall, Montana; 5 grandchildren: Carie (Kirk) Pogue, Astrid (Jimmy) Brosius, Bonnie (Jason) Van Aller, Jennifer Andren, Travis Andren; 5 great-grandchildren: Joshua Pogue, Kendall Pogue, Breanna Brosius, Hannah Brosius and Christian Van Aller. Along with her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her only sister, Mary Werts. A graveside service with family and friends will take place in the Spring of 2014 at the Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, Michigan.
