Virginia Howell Probst, age 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the First Southern Baptist Church, located at 360 N. First Ave. in Holbrook, Arizona. Virginia is survived by her 4 daughters, Julie, Debbie, Caroline and Patti; and her 6 grandchildren. Virginia was born on July 7, 1923 in Humboldt, Arizona, to the late John Robert Howell, Sr. and Julia Claire Phillips Howell. As a lifelong resident of Holbrook, Virginia and her husband, Gene, enjoyed many years of friendship with the community. She was the city librarian for 27 years. She knew and loved people of all ages that she served. Many will remember Virginia and Gene for their summertime evening movies at the tennis court projected from the old 16 mm reels onto the back wall. Virginia had a very outgoing and playful personality, and will always be remembered for both. She was a lover of nature, an avid gardener, loved readings and learning, loved mischief and enjoyed a good prank, never met a stranger, bowled in the town league, a terrific seamstress and cook. In her later years she was still reaching out to children of all ages with her Tootsie Rolls! Virginia was joking, winking and singing to the end. Her beloved Gene, and her daughters and grandchildren were her greatest joys. She will be missed.
