Elsie Louise Burgess

Elsie Louise Burgess passed away at the age of 95 on August 14, 2013 in her home in Linden, Arizona. Her youngest daughter and husband were by her side with other family members close by. Louise was born on August 19, 1917 to Arthur Eldridge and Clara Belle Powell Templin in Converse, Indiana. She was their only child. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1928. Louise married John Marion Burgess on June 29, 1939 staying in the Phoenix area for about 2 years. They then started their many moves which included Arkansas, multiple cities in Arizona, Colorado, California and Texas over the next 59 years. In the year 2000, after 61 years of marriage, her husband passed away after which she moved to Show Low to be near her children. Louise loved to travel and spent much of her time going to grandchildren's homes as well as spending time with her sister-in-law in California. She joined the Show Low Seventh-Day Adventist church in 2004 and was very active in their community service work. Louise loved selling her hand made quilts and pot scrubbers at the farmers market. As far into her 90's as her body would allow she traveled to see family and friends. She played volleyball and rode on motorcycles at the age of 90, kayaked at 92, and hiked mountains at 94. Louise is survived by her children: Itka (Butch) Troutman, John Burgess and Cordy (Lee) Larson; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She loved life, her kids, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and God. She volunteered her days to those who were struggling in life, gave others a little piece of heaven here on earth and wanted others to have the same faith and trust in God as she did. Clear up to her final days on earth, she quilted and crocheted. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Burgess and her parents Arthur and Clara Belle Templin. A viewing will be held at Owens Livingston Mortuary White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, Arizona on Thursday, August 22nd from 6-8 pm and again 1 hour prior to the funeral which will be held at 1 pm on Friday, August 23rd at the Show Low Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 701 So. 8th Ave. Interment will follow at the Show Low Cemetery. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Compasses at 928-368-4400 in Show Low, Arizona.
