Robert H. Midyett, Jr.

On July 23, 2013 Robert H. Midyett, Jr. finished his long journey home and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Pastor Bob, as he was known by man, died peacefully at his home in Show Low, Arizona with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ermie Mae (Mill) and Robert Harrison Midyett, Sr. as well as 3 brothers: James, Paul and Kenneth Midyett. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sharon Midyett; his 2 sisters: Maybelle Cates, Ginger (Bruce) Moore; 2 daughters: Joy Hough, Karen (Jeremy) Francis and 3 grandchildren. Bob was born in Mayfield, Graves County, Kentucky on the 4th of July, 1941. He attended school at Paducha Private School, received a technical certificate in Chicago, Illinois from Coen Electrical Institute for radio and television, and later went to Bible School at Southwestern Assembly of God College in Waxahachie, Texas where he received his Minister's License and later became an Ordained Minister with the Assemblies of God. He began his active ministry at a young age, always with his loving wife, pastoring the children at Central Assembly of God in Tucson, Arizona; Midloathian Assembly of God in Midloathian, Texas; Associate/Children's Pastor at Downtown Assembly of God in Tucson, Arizona; Faith Assembly of God in Tucson; New Life Assembly of God in Johnstown, Colorado; Trinity Assembly of God in Rawlins, Wyoming; and finally retiring at First Assembly of God in Show Low, Arizona where he pastored for more than 18 years. Bob and his devoted wife ministered for a total of 47 years before retiring in 2007. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially loved sharing those special moments with his daughters and grandchildren and his friends and never missed an opportunity to share the Love of Christ with anyone who needed it. Bob looked for opportunities to share his knowledge and wisdom and enjoyed teaching people to do anything from repairing a washing machine to skinning a squirrel. Bob made many friends and took many young men under his wing and truly loved to pass on what he had learned to future generations. Bob was a great comfort to many families as he ministered to them during their time of loss, laying to rest over 190 people during the the course of his ministry in the White Mountain area alone. Bob's great love for people and compassion was overflowing as he would minister to grieving families whom he may have only met a few minutes prior to the service. Bob believed that all people deserved to be honored in death and that their loved ones should be comforted and ministered to with compassion, no matter who they were. In his final days he was certain to tell everyone he saw about the Love of Christ, but also to tell everyone how much he was in love with his wife, Sharon, and how grateful he was for her loving kindness and tender care. As his body weakened his spirit stayed strong and he never missed a chance to express his gratitude and love to the people who had come in and out of his life. Bob will be remembereed as a man who inspired those around him to be the best they could be, that good enough was never good enough rather, things should be done right. He helped people learn of their own personal depth and realize their full potential. He was a man who put others first and taught everyone around him to do the same. Bob's legacy lives on in his choices preceding death, to offer himself for medical research so that others may be spared the illness he suffered from, and he was very proud of the fact that he would be able to help others long after he was gone. Bob's memory and example will live on in the lives of everyone who knew him and had the pleasure to call him husband, father, grandfather, brother, pastor and friend. Bob will be remembered at a special memorial service 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, Arizona. The family would like to invite anyone who desires, to send stories, anecdotes or memories of Bob along with pictures to the family home, bring to the service or submit you stories and pictures here. The stories will be compiled and made into a book for the family. Memorial contributions may be made to a special memorial fund, established in Bob's name to express appreciation for the dedicated service of the hospice nurses, chaplain and staff of Hospice Compassus and to honor Bob's wishes to provide for his grandchildren's education.
