Merrill Schauers

Dr. Merrill Schauers, died at age 71 on August 2nd at his loving home in Show Low, Arizona. He was born on June 3, 1942 in Culver City, California and enjoyed a wonderful life. He married the sweetheart of his dreams in 1962 and proceeded to raise the family that he loved so much. In 1972 he graduated from Nova University with his Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at which time he moved his family to Pinetop, Arizona. Dr. Schauers recently retired after 40 years of loyal and loving service to the community. He was a pioneer in the beginning of the mental health programs, to include, but not limited to, his work as Founding Board Member of Safe House, Director of the Community Councelling Center, served on the Health Advisory Board and was the founding father of the White Mountain Meals on Wheels program. Dr. Schauers initiated and assisted too many mental health interventions to easily list. His work spanned numerous states, counties and Indian lands. He was also the proud author of his book, Kid Kontrol and authored many articles for the psychological community. Dr. Schauers spoke often of how he was very appreciative of those with whom he has worked and shared such rich experiences. He considered it an honor to have worked so closely with the good people of our wonderful community. His family, friends and special clients will miss him deeply and will never forget the loving and continued impact in their lives. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 52 years, Wanda and his 3 children, Eric Schauers, Melanie Compton and Alan Compton and his 6 wonderful grand children. The family plans to host a loving and laughter filled special service at Owens Livingston Mortuary White Mountain Chapel in Show Low, Arizona at 2 pm on Friday, August 16th. Dr. Merrill Schauers; loving husband, father, grand father and friend will be forever missed.
