Leland Ray Hutton

January 23, 1940 — July 14, 2013

Leland "Mickey" Ray Hutton, 73, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends, in the afternoon on July 14, 2013 after a sudden and short bout with cancer. He was born January 23, 1940 in McNary, AZ to Melvin and Nelma "Sis" (Earl) Hutton. From 1958 - 1963, Leland served in the United States Navy. He had a very successful career working in the lumber and paper industry: Southwest Forest Industries in McNary, AZ, Allied Forest Products, and Stone Container. His heart was in the lumber industry where he created many long lasting friendships and accomplishments. Leland was a man's man who lived life on his own terms. He was a true cowboy in spirit, cherishing his freedom to roam through wilderness to steal a glimpse of God's natural majesty. He knew the White Mountains like the back of his hand; and spent many outings with his family and friends hunting, fishing, camping and looking at country. He was known for his shortcuts that according to his Grandchildren were really long cuts (which they loved). When you traveled with him, he made it an adventure, to explore the path less traveled, to look at wilderness from a new perspective, never driving back the same way you went in. He was happy-go-lucky, fun-loving, and had a special charismatic spark about him that created the light in many people's lives. If you ever sat down with him, Leland could spin a yarn and tell wonderful tales of his past adventures and fun moments, stories that would have you on the edge of your seat or rolling on the floor laughing. He had diverse interests and an insatiable appetite for reading and tinkering. He was one of those rare individuals who could do anything he put his mind to - and he did it his way. Leland is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Pinetop; daughters, Winona (Helmut) Reda of Clifton, VA, Lamona (Steve) Falcon of Peoria, AZ, Lisa (Tim) Davis of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Maraika and Mackenzie Smith of Clifton, VA, Alex and Loren Reda of Clifton, VA; Kasandra, Faith, and Troy Davis of Glendale, AZ and Maddox Falcon of Peoria, AZ; extended family, Ginger Moya Somers, Cindy Moya and Brent Moya; sister Nadine "Suzy" Hutton-Hale; aunt Dovie Earl and uncle Randell (Tince) Earl, and sister in-law Eunice Hutton; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother, Arthur "Bubba" Hutton; aunts, uncles, one cousin and one niece. Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 27th, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. Ninth Street in Show Low, AZ.
