On July 3, 2013, Lucy Giallonardo Crognale Vessels (99) was reunited with her loved ones in heaven. With a healthy but tired body, Lucy peacefully raised her arms to Jesus and asked for rest. Given her lifelong love for Jesus and his Blessed Mother, it's fitting that Jesus was quick to answer her call. Lucy was born in Castel Frentano, Italy, immigrated to the US in 1924 to Windber, Pa. She married Vincent Crognale in 1933 and move to Warren, Ohio. Due to her husband's health, they moved to Phoenix in 1944. Lucy's parents Luigi and Colomba and brother Louis followed them to Arizona in 1955 and Lucy's home became the center of all family activities for years to come. Vincent passed away in 1963. In 1969, Lucy met another wonderful man, Peter (Lonnie) Vessels. Together they enjoyed camping and fishing and traveled to Lonnie's former home in Kentucky on a regular basis. Lucy is survived by her brother, Louis Giallonardo; sister-in-law, Dolly and stepson, Gary Vessels she was predeceased by brothers, Anthony and Thomas; parents, Luigi and Colomba and spouses Vincent and Peter. Lucy's wonderful personality and love for her family will be remembered by family and many friends alike. Lucy spent the latter years of her life in the loving care of Louise and Dooly, who are summer residents of Show Low. In her final 2 years she was blessed with wonderful care at Solterra Sr. Living in Lakeside, Arizona. A funeral Mass will be said for Lucy Friday, July 19, 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chandler. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix.
