Dr. Teresa (Teri) Lynn Dismuke of Lakeside, Navajo County, Arizona passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 13, 2013 in Show Low, Navajo County, Arizona. Teri was born in Santa Barbara California to Joanne Brimer Dismuke and Gerald Lee Dismuke on March 29, 1953. Teri had an extensive amount of education having graduated from San Marcos Senior High School in 1971; from Santa Barbara City College in 1975 with an Associate in Arts degree; graduated Cum Laude from Southern Oregon State College in 1980 with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology; graduated from University of Oregon in 1984 with a Master of Science in Counseling; and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern California University in 2005 with a Doctorate of Psychology. She was an American Psychotherapy Association Board Certified Professional Counselor and a National Board Certified Counselor. Teri developed a strong sense of justice and humanity as a child; which carried throughout her personal relationships and professional life. She worked with battered women and children and at risk youth in Oregon, California, Tennessee, and the Carolinas and spent much of her career working with and counseling children on the White Mountain Apache reservation of Arizona. She became a strong advocate to end bullying, created and implemented the student council, and worked with the gifted and talented program at JFK School in Cedar Creek, Arizona. She loved and respected the Native American culture and was loved by the children. She was a singer/songwriter and performer, recording and producing four albums and singing back-up in 3 of her son's albums. She authored We Were Meant to Fly; women and healing to be used in empowerment workshops in conjunction with her music. Her talented guitar and angelic voice blend to create beautiful music that heals emotional and spiritual wounds. Teri was preceded in death by her mother Joanne Brimer Dismuke and is survived by her son Ryan David Orr, father Gerald Lee Dismuke, her sister Susan Lou Dismuke Lord (Paul Lord), her brother David Lee Dismuke (Charles Bridges), her brother Darryl Robert Dismuke (Shirley Dismuke), nieces Pamela Lord Neuman, Jodi Dismuke Purvis and Heather Dismuke Hayes, nephews Jonathan Lord, Kyle Dismuke and Max Doocy, 7 grandnieces, 1 grandnephew and numerous lifelong friends. A private family service will be held later this year in Santa Barbara.
