Kathryn Harris

July 19, 1938 — June 29, 2013

Kathryn ("Kay") Harris, 74, formerly of Holbrook, passed away on June 29, 2013 at the Carriage House in Snowflake, Arizona. Kay was born on July 19, 1938 in Holbrook to Ralph Marion Harris and Helen Fay Randall Harris. During her childhood years she attended Holbrook Public Schools and she graduated from Holbrook High School in 1957. She participated in the Drum and Bugle Corp and was the Head Cheerleader. She loved and participated in all sports. After she graduated from high school, she moved to Tempe and worked at ASU in the records department. Throughout her working career she worked as a secretary in a business setting for various companies but her favorite job was working in the Cartwright Elementary School District in Phoenix working with children. From a marriage union, her son, Brad, was born in 1964. He was the light of her life and the twinkle in her eyes! No matter what hobbies or interests Brad developed over the years, his Mom was his greatest cheerleader. They had an amazing bond and a very loving Mother/Son relationship. Kay loved spending time in the mountains, camping and fishing. She enjoyed doing crafts and watching movies and spending time with her family and friends. She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings including Relief Society presidency and Young Women, but her greatest calling was working as Primary President with the children. She had such a beautiful way of making everyone feel special and loved and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Kay is survived by her Mother, Fay Harris Stratton; her son, Brad Harris; her sisters, Marian (Keith) DeWitt and Marjory (Dennis) Austin; and her brother Monty (Joy) Harris. She is also survived by step-siblings Shirley (Hartley) Webb, Dan (Iris) Stratton and Steve (Verlyn) Stratton. She also had many nieces and nephews who she loved and adored. Nieces include Trenna Hunt, Cindy Peterson, Tandy Taylor, Jill Maner, Misty Stuart, Leslie Bigler and Heather Austin. Nephews include Michael, Kevin (deceased), Alan and Scott DeWitt; Stephen Austin and Dustin Harris. She was preceded in death by her Father, Ralph Harris; nephew Kevin DeWitt; Step-Father Lynn Stratton and Step-sister Barbara Whipple. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Holbrook Stake Center, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with the funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Holbrook Cemetery. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Staff and Caregivers at the Carriage House in Snowflake. They were so kind and loving to Kay and she loved each one of them in return!
