John D. Welchman, III originally of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Odelia (Best) Welchman and by his first wife, Renate Welchman. He is survived by sisters: Julie Houston, Gail Welchman; brother, Lonn Welchman; brother in arms, John Fell; second wife, ToniLynn (Harris) Welchman; daughters: Renata (Welchman) Johnson, Linda (Crausby) Olson; son, Howard Crausby; step-sons: C.J. and Michael; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving, stubborn brother, cherished father and beloved grandfather. John enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966, served in Vietnam in the 35th Corps of Engineers and returned home as Staff Sergeant before beginning his career in construction. A longtime member of Local 4, John taught carpentry for 30 years before moving to Arizona and continuing in construction until his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed spending time with family, looking for golf balls, photography, wildlife, the St. Croix and the Mississippi Rivers, being active in the American Legion Post 76 of Show Low, Arizona and, like all good Iowans, the weather. In keeping with John's wishes, a celebration of life ceremony will be held in the Quad-Cities at a later date. Military Honors and inurnment will begin 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
