Robert Joseph Casey

May 28, 1944 — June 7, 2013

Dr. Robert Joseph Casey passed away Friday afternoon, June 7, 2013. Dr. Casey was born May 28, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Borromeo Seminary and John Carroll University before enlisting in the Marines and attending Case Western Reserve University and earning a Master's degree in social work before deciding to follow his heart and go into medicine by attending the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine where he earned his D.O. in 1976. After medical school he moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he opened the After Hours Family Medical Clinic, a very successful medical practice catering to families who might otherwise have little access to general medical care. In 1983, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he continued medical work, opening a free medical clinic for those in need as well as maintaining his own private practice. In 2001, he relocated to Show Low where he served the White Mountain Community as both a solo practitioner and as a physician at Summit Health Care Hospital. Dr. Casey will be fondly remembered for his genuine concern and easy familiarity will all his patients. Any former patient will likely remember Dr. Casey both running behind schedule and yet also staying in an exam room far longer than most doctors as he questioned, explained, and even simply chatted with his patients. Friends and family will remember his nearly larger than life personality and his never ending desire to learn a little more about nearly everything. Dr.Casey is survived by his sister, Mary Palenchar; four children, Patrick Casey, Robert Ian Casey, Erin Casey, and Robert J. Casey, Jr.; his three grandchildren, Kieren Casey, Sean O'Connor and Eleri Casey; his wife of 20 years, Diane Reyes-Casey who was at his side when he passed. Friends of "Doc" Casey are invited to attend his Rosary at 3:00 P.M. followed by a Memorial Mass beginning at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, June 13, 2013 at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 1400 East Owens, Show Low. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life immediately after the services. Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel of Show Low handled the arrangements.
