Ruth Harriet Millar was born in San Francisco, California, on September 8, 1919, to Norma and Harry Millar. She died May 21, 2013, at Sierra Blanca in Lakeside, Arizona. Her father was an accountant in the timber industry, so as a child she and her three brothers discovered nature while visiting logging camps in northern California. In her teens the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she attended and graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1936. Back in the California bay area, she met her husband of forty years, Paul Hoffmann, at the Bank of America, where they were both employed. She also had the wonderful experience of walking over the Golden Gate Bridge, available to pedestrian traffic only, on the day of its grand opening. Paul was employed with the bank for 43 years, and due to branch transfers, he and his bride resided in several California locations. They are survived by a daughter, Pat (Overman); a son, Rick Hoffmann; a grandson, Jason Overman, and two great-grandchildren. Always focused on the out-of-doors, the family enjoyed water-skiing, and a cabin in the Sierras. Ruth was an avid and involved golfer, traveling to participate in many exciting tournaments. In 1973, Ruth and Paul retired to a home in West Sedona, Arizona. With Paul's passing in 1981, Ruth moved first to Oak Creek Village, then to Clarkdale, Arizona, and finally to the White Mountains, nearer her son. She enjoyed living with many caring friends at Solterra (formerly Aspen Pond), in Lakeside, Arizona. Ruth lived a full life, and loved needlework, and books, and gardening, and dogs, and birds, and had a deep appreciation of Native American culture and art. She was loved, and is missed, by many. Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel handled the arrangements.
