Rex H. Earl of Forest Lakes, Arizona passed away on May 20, 2013 at the age of 91. He had been cared for by the owners and staff of The Carriage House in Snowflake for the past 2 years, to whom we are grateful for their kindness. Rex was born in Pocatello, Idaho on August 1, 1921. 4 months later he moved to Phoenix, Arizona in January 1922. Rex spent his growing up years in the White Mountains learning to hunt and fish with his Dad and brothers. He remained an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life. Rex volunteered 5 days after Pearl Harbor and was sent to Ft. Bliss, Texas. There he was assigned to the 1st Cavalry, then segregated into the Army Air Corps and received his basic training at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. He was trained as an air craft flight mechanic and assigned to a Fighter outfit at Harding Field, Louisiana. He competed against LSU where he broke a record for freestyle swimming. He met his Cajun love, Evelyn Guerin, and they were married when he returned from active duty in August 1945. While overseas, he served during the Battle of Britain, North Africa, Corsica, Sardinis and Pisa, Italy. He re-upped in the Air Force retiring in 1952 and joined Air Guard from 1953 to 1973. Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; brothers, Max, Val and Wade; his Daughters: Vicki Patrick and Kathi Dixon. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; granddaughter, Tiffany (Jay) Fotos; step-children; Thomas (Julie) Kokaliares, Helena (Bill) Durrenberger; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at the Beck Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 10:00 A.M., May 27, 2013, 1221 W. Howe Street in Tempe, Arizona. Burial will be 10:00 A.M. May 28, 2013 at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, 401 N. Hayden Road in Scottsdale, Arizona. Memorial contributions may be made in Rex's name to the charity of your choice.
