David Emery Ohlson

October 9, 1932 — May 4, 2013

David Emery Ohlson died in the very early morning hours of Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Winslow Campus of Care in Winslow, Navajo County, Arizona from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was 80 years old. David was born on October 9, 1932 in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County, Ohio to his parents, the late Albert Ludvick and Susanna May (Emery) Ohlson. David was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. During his service, he was stationed in Panama. Following his honorable discharge from the military, David began a long and successful career as a machinist and tool & die maker, starting with Pflueger in Cuyahoga Falls. In 1960, David moved his family west and settled in Phoenix. He worked for Spray Ram and in 1978 he transfered to Holbrook and continued to work for A.P.S. and was able to retire after several years of dedicated service. It was while living in Holbrook that David and his wife were able to meet some of their dearest and closest friends. In his younger years, David enjoyed going on a rare hunt. Due to a knee injury in his 20's, he was limited on what he was able to do outdoors. He did, however, have a great love for shop smithing. In his own garage, he literally owned just about any tool one could think of. With the mechanical skills he possessed, David was able to help any of his family and friends with whatever help they needed. He truly was blessed with a giving spirit and many will miss his generous and kind ways. David is survived by his wife, Betty (Dick) Ohlson of Holbrook, Arizona; 3 children: Carol ( Doug) Whitford of Springfield, Ohio, Alice (Ed) Lowengren of Lakeside, Arizona, Donald Ohlson of Holbrook, Arizona; 6 grandchildren: Laura Whitford, Zack Whitford, Nicole Petersen, Edrick Lowengren, Julius Ohlson, Deanne Ohlson; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Shirley McGril. The memorial service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the United Methodist Church of Holbrook, 118 W. Arizona Street in Holbrook. Memorial contributions to Hospice Compassus, 1000 Humphreys Street, Flagstaff, Arizona 86001 or to the United Methodist Church of Holbrook, 118 W.
