Annabel Gwen Stenquist

May 4, 1924 — April 27, 2013

Annabel Gwen Farr Stenquist passed peacefully from this life on April 27, 2013, one week short of her 89th birthday. She was born on May 4, 1924 to parents, the late Norman and Lottie (Lewis) Andreason in Richfield, Utah. Gwen had an idyllic childhood, graduated from Richfield High School and met her future husband, Willard B. Farr, whom she married on October 10, 1944 in South Carolina. His career in the Air Force took them all over the country. In the course of her lifetime, she lived in 35 different homes in several states including: California, Idaho, Alaska, Wyoming, Kansas, Georgia, Utah, Kentucky and Arizona; She got her childhood wish to "someday travel outside the state of Utah!" Together, Gwen and Willard had 6 children: Keith, Alan, Erik, Lorin, Sterling and Dina. After Willard's Air Force retirement in 1970, the family moved to St. George, Utah where Gwen worked selling Avon, The World Book Encylopedia, in the county clerk's office and as a legal secretary. After her divorce in 1983. Gwen was blessed to marry Don Stenquist of Tremonton, Utah which was also where they lived for several years. They eventually moved to St. George, Utah where they enjoyed many happy years together. Don and Gwen were priviliged to serve as full-time missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Louisville Kentucky Mission, which they loved. Gwen has also served in many other callings for The Church, including: Primary, Mutual, Sunday School, Stake Relief Society President, Temple Worker and Missionary. Thirsting for travel and learning, Don and Gwen visited many parts of the world, including: Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Panama, The Bahamas, Hong Kong, South Korea, Alaska, Egypt, Israel, England, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The walls of their study were lined with shelves and covered with mementos from their world travels. Gwen had a personality that drew others to her. She was very creative and enjoyed writing poetry, sketching and painting. Being outdoors, whether on a picnic, hike or working in her garden, was a source of joy to her. She was an optimist and had the gift of gratitude; appreciating even the smallest beauties, kindnesses or experiences. She was a woman of faith and loved her Savior dearly and relied upon her Heavenly Father daily, acknowledging his hand and help in her life, through the difficult times as well as the good. Gwen is survived by her 4 children: Keith (Janet) Farr of Antioch, California, Erik (Kirsten) Farr of West Valley City, Utah, Sterling (Rachelle) Farr of Draper, Utah, Dina (Roger) Williams of Show Low, Arizona; 5 step-children: Marie (Jeff) Wise of Sandy, Utah, Karen (Walter) Blanco of Layton, Utah, Donna (Derek) Jaco of Layton, Utah, Clark (Lillian) Stenquist of Layton, Utah, Diane (Rick) Spencer of Salt Lake City, Utah; 33 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons: Lorin Farr and Alan Farr. The funeral service will begin 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 4, 2013 (her birthday!) at the Show Low Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1401 W. Deuce of Clubs Avenue in Show Low, Arizona where the visitation will begin 1 hour prior. The concluding service and interment will 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 6, 2013 at the St. George Cemetery in St. George, Utah. Gwens family would like to thank the owners and staff of The Carriage House in Snowflake who have cared for Gwen with genuine kindness and compassion for the past 3 years. They too, are thankful for all the expressions of sympathy they have received and are especially grateful for all of the prayers offered up on their behalf.
