Chris Stevens

August 21, 1956 — January 3, 2013

James Copp, known to everyone as Chris Stevens, died just on January 3, 2013 at Hospice of The Valley in Peoria, Maricopa County, Arizona. He was 56 years old. Chris was born in Weymouth, Norfolk County, Massachusetts to his parents the late Donald Glenn Copp, Sr. and Doris Virginia (Thomas) Copp. Although born on the East Coast, Chris was reared in Southern California where he received all of his education. Immediately after receiving his broadcasting education and certification, Chris began a 30+ year career as a Radio DJ, working for Family Life Radio. His chosen profession gave him the opportunity to live in several states throughout the country including: California, Iowa, Alabama, Michigan and finally, Arizona. He moved to Arizona in 1996 and called Tucson "home" for 7 years. In 2003 he relocated to the beautiful White Mountains, residing in Pinetop. When Chris moved to Arizona he fell in love with the diverse beauty of the state. He loved to play golf at any one of several of his favorite golf courses. Also, he enjoyed horseback riding in his younger days and always looked forward to hiking, alone or with his family, at many trails, mountains and forests in the area. One of his most special places to hike in the world was around Scotts Reservoir. He truly appreciated the beauty of God's creations and felt close to Him while hiking there. Chris is survived by his mother, Doris Copp Friend of Glendale, Arizona; 7 children: Kimi Wilson of Tucson, Arizona, Keri Copp (Matthew DeMuro), Brian Copp of Tucson, Arizona, Daniel Copp of Tucson, Arizona, Kate (Steve) Ferencik of Henderson, Nevada, Steven (Abigail) Copp of Tucson, Arizona, Kristina Copp of Tucson, Arizona; 2 brothers: Vernon (Sue) Copp of Burbank, California, Bob Copp of Pasadena, California, 8 grandchildren: Brandon Prater, Alexander Prater, Darren Prater, Alyssa Prater, Amylyn, Cooper, Khloe Cruz, Kingston Copp with another baby granddaughter on the way. Along with his father, Chris was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Donald G. Copp, Jr., Warren Copp and Arthur "Skip" Copp. The public memorial service for Chris will begin 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 19, 2012 at Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, Arizona. His ashes will be spread in the beautiful forests surrounding Scotts Reservoir, where he loved, so much, to hike with his family.
