Naoma Nadine Owens

Naoma Nadine Owens died Wednesday night, December 26, 2012 at Sierra Blanca Nursing Center in Lakeside, Navajo County, Arizona following a lengthy illness. She was 82 years old. Naoma was born on June 24, 1930 in Albion, LeFlore County, Oklahoma to her parents, the late Jack C. and Iva Irene (Wilson) Kelley. Naoma was named as Valedictorian from her high school graduating class in Heavener, Oklahoma. She moved to Arizona from her native Oklahoma in 1949. She has called Overgaard "home" for many years and has been a pillar of the Heber/Overgaard communities since moving to the area. She has served on various boards through the years and was quite active with the school board since the 1960's. Naoma was an avid supporter of Mogollon High School and its sports. She literally attended hundreds of the different games over the years. She also served as Postmaster for 39 years and was always a friendly and familiar face to others in her community. Since moving to Overgaard, Naoma was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and was its last surviving charter member. She truly will be missed by many in the Heber/Overgaard communities but, none will miss her more than her own family. Naoma is survived by her 5 children: Sharon Williams of Overgaard, Arizona, Kenneth Owens of Queen Creek, Arizona, Billy L. Owens, Jr. of Heber, Arizona, Roger Owens of Heber, Arizona, Paul Owens of Phoenix, Arizona; 1 brother, David Stokes of Oklahoma; 1 sister, Arlinda Stokes of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the First Southern Baptist Church 2727 Church Lane in Overgaard, Arizona. The concluding service and interment will immediately follow at the Heber Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Naoma's name to the First Southern Baptist Church Building Fund, 2727 Church Lane, Overgaard, Arizona 85933 have been suggested by her family.
