Rose Nagle Lupe

January 23, 1923 — December 17, 2012

Rose Lupe died early Monday morning, December 17, 2012 at the Sierra Blanca Nursing Center in Lakeside, Navajo County, Arizona following a lengthy illness. She was 89 years old. Rose was born on January 23, 1923 at her family home in Cibecue, Arizona to the late Alexander and Natalie (Kessay) Nagle. Rose was an incredible woman who possessed many talents. She loved to sing in her native Apache tongue and would entertain others for hours on end. She was proud of her ancestors and always tried to honor them through the kind and gentle ways she cared for others. Rose was a devoted homemaker throughout her long life and was a loving wife, caring mother and doting grandmother, not only to her grandchildren, but to her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as countless others in her community who affectionately referred to her as "Grandma", too. She loved all of her grandkids so very much and she always looked forward to spending time with them. She had a deep and abiding faith in God and lived each day trying to be the best that she could. She proved her love of God by giving countless hours of service to others with whatever they were in need of. She truly believed that "when (she) was in the service of her fellow man, (she) was only in the service of her God." Many hundreds, if not thousands, of people were blessed by her generous and giving spirit and her sweet disposition to give whatever she could. Rose, being the God fearing woman that she was, found a great deal of joy attending her weekly worship services at her church. Many there will miss her warm and friendly face. Rose was not afraid to speak of those things that were on her mind as she was a very outspoken person. It has been said of her by her family that "you always knew where you stood with her" and she was always willing to offer advice, whether she was asked for it or not, to help her family with their individual trials and tribulations that came from everyday life. Another of Rose's great joys in life came from making food. She was an excellent cook and fed many a belly over the years. No one ever left her house hungry because she always made sure they had plenty to eat. Her food was so tasty and delicious, she was able to sell a lot of it over the years to others in her community. Everyone will miss her culinary skills and the tasty meals she prepared on a daily basis. Rose also was very talented working with her hands in different handicrafts. She had a very unique skill and was quite gifted making "Burden Baskets" as well as "Cradle Boards" for many of her family members and friends. She also possessed a unique ability to make others feel comfortable when in her presence. She knew some of the best jokes and making others laugh brought her a great deal of joy and pleasure. Ever the matriarch of her large family, Rose always made sure her family was well cared for. This beautifully incredible lady will be missed by so many however, none will miss her more than her own dear family. Rose is survived by her 5 daughters: Joyce Wallen, Norma Lupe, Azlie Lupe, Yolanda Lupe, Maxine Bonito; 6 sons: Max Lupe, Sr., Enoch Lupe Sr., Mike Lupe, Sr., Richard Lupe, Sr., Dewey Lupe, Jr., Burnette Lupe; 1 sister, Irene Murphy; 1 God-daughter, Marna Gooday; 51 grandchildren, 115 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; 6 nieces and 4 nephews. A two-day wake for Rose will begin 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Lupe Family home, 310 N. Cromwell Road in Cibecue, Arizona. Her funeral service will begin 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 24, 2012 (Christmas Eve day) at the Cibecue Miracle Church in Cibecue. The concluding service and interment will immediately follow at the Lupe Family Cemetery in Cibecue. Rose's family is thankful for all of the expressions of sympathy they have received from their large community of friends and are especially grateful for the prayers offered up on their behalf during this difficult season.
