Howard Eugene Hartzell died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at his home in Lakeside, Navajo County, Arizona. He was 92 years old. Howard was born on March 6, 1920 in Muncie, Indiana to James and Ruth (Williams) Hartzell. In his early years, Howard worked for an electricial company before serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. Howard dedicated his life to the ministry for the WELS Lutheran Church primarily on the Ft. Apache Reservation. He enjoyed architechture and designed a number of churches. During his ministry he served as the Director of the East Fork Lutheran Nursery which took care of children. Howard also enjoyed photography. Howard is survived by his wife, Mildred Hartzell of Lakeside, Arizona; 5 children: Eric (Delora) Hartzell of Georgetown, Texas, Lance (Annette) Hartzell of New Ulm, Minnesota, Ralan (Lynn) Hartzell, Bret (Nancy) Hartzell, Maura (Reginald) Riesop all of Lakeside, Arizona; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; his sister, Evelyn Faull of Indiana. He was preceded in death by 2 sons: Clint Matthew Hartzell and Eugene Edward Hartzell. A memorial service was held 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 26, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 4839 Vallery Lane in Lakeside, Arizona.
