Alice Gomez Garcia

Alice Gomez Alvarez Garcia earned her wings and entered the pearly gates of Heaven on Saturday, November 10, 2012 in Holbrook, Arizona. She was born June 14, 1932 in Winslow, Arizona to Pete Gomez and Josephina Guerrero Gomez. Alice was very active and involved with the Catholic Church as well as local charities and, in general, with her community. She loved to collect religious items. She was a very good mother who loved her children and grandchildren. She, too, loved her many, many "god-children". Alice was a very hard worker who could do many different jobs; all very well. She loved to travel and was particularly proud of the fact that she rode on the back of a motorcycle to Canada at the age of 60! Alice was a kind, compassionate and caring person who was always willing to lend a helping hand in service to others. She is survived by 4 children: Paul (Gina) Garcia of Holbrook, Eva (David) Purvis of Holbrook, Arthur (Vivian) Garcia of Peoria & Anthony (Janice) Garcia of Peoria; 18 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandson; 4 sisters: Ramona Padilla of Holbrook, Arizona, Mary Avalar of Holbrook, Arizona, Aurelia Pipkins of Avondale, Arizona, Vivian Flores of Phoenix, Arizona; 1 brother, Henry Alvarez of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven L. Garcia, Jr. A public viewing will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Owens Livingston Mortuary - Holbrook Chapel, 409 N. 1st Avenue in Holbrook. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 16, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 212 E. Arizona in Holbrook where the Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin just prior to the funeral mass at 9:30 A.M. The committal service and interment will immediately follow at the Holbrook Cemetery. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook cared for the arrangements.
