Henry Calija Daoang, Sr., SFC, died in the afternoon hours of Monday, October 8, 2012, 3 days before his 59th wedding anniversary in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada. He was 81 years old. Henry was born on Saturday, July 18, 1931 in Waimanalo, Oahu in, then what was known as, the Territory of Hawaii to the late Gelacio and Helen (Calija) Daoang. In 1951, as a young man, Henry entered into active duty in the United States Army, 8 years before Hawaii's Statehood. He served honorably for nearly 23 years before receiving his honorable discharge in 1973. During his time of service, Henry served in the Korean War as well as 2 tours of duty during the Vietnam War. As Sergeant First Class of the U.S. Army, he received several medals for his service, including a Bronze Star and Medal of Good Conduct. On October 11, 1953 Henry married his young bride, Rosita Padilla at St. George Catholic Church in Waimanalo, Hawaii. Following his retirement from the U.S. Armed Forces, Henry worked as an electrician for Arthur Collier in Temple, Texas. In the early 80's, he moved back to his native Hawaii, where he lived before finally moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he has since resided. Henry was a strict yet loving father and truly loved, UNCONDITIONALLY, each member of his family. He was affectionately known as "Daddy" to his family and none will miss him more than they. Henry is survived by: his wife, Rosita P. Daoang; 6 children: Teresa (David, Sr.) Bianchini, Henrietta (Joe) Ruvolo, Henry, Jr. (Sammie) Daoang, Darryl Daoang, Allan Daoang; Paula Daoang; 1 brother, Ben (Sharon) Daoang; 1 sister, Rosita Yoro; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, Henry was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Daoang. The funeral service will begin 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Hites Funeral Home, 438 W. Sunset Road in Henderson, Nevada where the viewing will begin 1 hour prior. The concluding service with military honors will begin, promptly, at 1:20 P.M. later that afternoon at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Boulevard in Boulder City, Nevada.
