Vergin Christeen (Murdock) Harniss of Lakeside, Arizona passed away shortly before midnight at Webb's Adult Care Home, Thursday, September 27, 2012. She was born in Brockett, Arkansas September 28, 1911, to Oscar Fremon and Barbra Ellen Barker Murdock. Mrs. Harniss was preceded in death by three husbands: Ulah J. Broadway, Wilfred L. Allen, and Lawrence T. Harniss; seven brothers and sisters and three of her six children. She is survived by three children: Vedis M. Mullner (William) of Hacienda Heights, California, Ronald E. Broadway (Karen) of Phoenix, Arizona and Marsha Ford (Stephen) of Lakeside, Arizona; she also leaves 19 grandchildren; Edward Dowdy, Judy Hudgins, Douglas Dowdy, Jerry Dowdy, Kevin Dowdy, Stan Mullner, Jolene Nikolaus, Mark Mullner, Robin Broadway, Dawn Kubin, Laurie LaFrance-Helms, Patrick Broadway, Danelle Broadway, Courtney Bridges, Janessa Kuhl, Shannon Ridley, Erin Ford, Matthew Ford and Donna Ford; 34 great-grandchildren, 36 great-great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-great grandchildren. She was a Homemaker and seamstress in Yuma for over 35 years, and she loved to quilt, embroider, and crochet beautiful items as gifts for her family and friends. Before moving to the White Mountains, she spent many summers fishing and growing gardens in the area. She made many friends and loved to tell stories about her life and the many events and changes she had observed throughout her 100 years. Mrs. Harniss was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and trusted Jesus as her savior at an early age. Throughout the ups and downs of life, the loves and the losses, she never took her eyes off the Lord as her source of comfort and strength. This is the legacy of faith she proudly leaves to her children and the many generations to follow. A viewing was held at Owens Livingston Mortuary September 30, 2012, and a graveside service was held in Yuma, Arizona October 2, 2012. Mr. David C. Curtis, Minister with the Church of Christ and family friend of 50 years officiated. A memorial service for family and friends will be held October 13, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at Porter Mountain Fellowship, Pastor Jim Stansberry officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Macular Degeneration Foundation or to the Hospice Compassus of the White Mountains Foundation, P.O. Box 1975 Lakeside, Arizona in Vergin Harniss' name.
