Floyd Lupe, of Whiteriver, Navajo County, Arizona passed away peacefully September 24, 2012 at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low, Navajo County, Arizona. He was 83. Floyd was born to the late Ellison and Sadie (Thompson) Lupe in Cibecue, Navajo County, Arizona on August 24, 1929. Floyd was a true "Cowboy". He loved to rodeo and was great at calf roping, steer wrestling and team roping. He travel all over the Southwest on the rodeo circuit and was inducted into the American Indian Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association class of 1999. He worked for the Q Ranch near Young, Arizona, the Workman Creek Ranch and the A Cross Ranch. Floyd worked for the Whiteriver Police Department from 1950-1960 before going to work for the Arizona Department of Transportation in the Roads Department. Working for the state allowed Floyd to travel all over especially spending time in Ajo, Sacatone, Salt River, Peach Springs and Window Rock Arizona. He also worked for the White Mountain Apache Tribe in the Forestry Department. He is survived by his wife, Era Lupe of Hondah, Arizona; daughter, Tyleen Lupe of Hondah, Arizona; adopted sons, Jeremiah Williams of Carrizo, Arizona, Dallas (Rose Ann) Lupe of McNary, Arizona; traditional goddaughters, Geneva Greggs of Cibecue, Arizona, Shiela Thompson of Whiteriver, Arizona; 4 grandchildren; brothers, Callis Lupe of Whiteriver, Arizona, Roger (Vangie) Burdette of San Carlos, Arizona; sisters, Phyllis (Minor) Paxson of Seven Mile, Arizona, Zonie Hinton of Whiteriver, Arizona, June Antonio of Canyon Day, Arizona, Loretta Burdette of Whiteriver; cousins, Chairman Ronnie (Vera) Lupe of Whiteriver, Arizona, Warren (Wanda) Lupe of Cibecue, Arizona, Evalena James of Cibecue, Arizona, Lydia Smith of Whiteriver, Arizona and Arnold Lupe of Whiteriver, Arizona. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Lupe Bonito and Verna Lupe Cromwell. A two night wake will be held at 10:00AM Thursday October 4, 2012 at the family residence, 210 E. Highway 260, Hondah, Arizona. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday October 6, 2012 at the Cibecue Cottonwood Gymnasium in Cibecue, Arizona. Interment will take place in the Sunset Cemetery in Cibecue. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
