John Lloyd Paulsell

September 22, 1931 — July 28, 2012

John Lloyd Paulsell, of Holbrook, Navajo County, Arizona passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 28, 2012 at his home in Holbrook. He was 80. John was born on his family ranch in Holbrook to Lloyd and Betty (Barton) Paulsell on September 22, 1931. A true working cowboy, he spent most of his life raising cattle and working on his family ranch. His father, Lloyd was the cattle inspector for many years in Navajo County and John was always willing to step in a work the ranch in his father's absence. Following his time spent on the ranch John decided that he would like to have a change of pace and owned and operated the West End Liquor store and the J&J Trading Post in Holbrook for many years. He attended and graduated from Holbrook High School and then moved on to pursue a higher education at the Arizona State University. An avid sports fan he loved following the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Phoenix Suns; a passion he shared with his loving wife, Susie. He and Susie were avid gamblers and made many trips to Las Vegas where they enjoyed spending time together. John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susie Paulsell of Holbrook, Arizona; daughter, Patricia H. Whatton (Lee) of Scottsdale, Arizona; son, John Calvin Paulsell (Whitney) of Winslow, Arizona; 7 step-children; sisters, Louise Morgan of Las Vegas, Nevada, Della Dickerson (Richard) of Colorado as well as numerous grand children, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Jesse Paulsell; sister, Leona Eaton and a brother-in-law, Harold Eaton. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Thursday August 2, 2012 at the Owens Livingston Mortuary~Holbrook Chapel, 409 N. 1st Ave., Holbrook with a viewing 1 hour prior to the services. Entombment will be held in the Holbrook Cemetery immediately following the services.
