Venus A. Miller of Show Low passed away June 29,2012 at her home in Summer Pines. She was surrounded by her three children. She was 79. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Miller. Venus Alsace-Lorraine Miller was born March 20, 1933 in Frackville, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Charles Raymond and Rosa Louise (Mendenhall) Faust. She was the fourth of 5 children. She had 3 older brothers; Donovan, Murral, & La Mar and 1 younger sister Yvonne. She was the last surviving sibling. Venus moved fromPennsylvania with her family to Phoenix, Arizona in 1945 to escape the cold weather her father was so tired of. Venus married her sweetheart, James Theodore "Teddy" Miller on April 16, 1950 in Tempe, Arizona after 3 months of courtship. They met when a friend of Venus' set up a blind date for the two to meet. At the time of her husband's death they had been married for 47 years. Ted's nickname for his wife Venus was "Queenie." Venus and Ted spent all of their married life in Phoenix until they moved to Show Low in 1967. She loved to bowl and could always be found at the Show Low bowling alley. She was often teased "that her children were raised in a bowling alley." She was an excellent bowler but also found great pleasure in the friends that she made while bowling. Venus was adventurous and athletic all of her life. As a young girl she was on the swim team, was a diver, played softball, water skied. She loved to snow ski and taught many of her grandchildren to ski. She continued to snow ski until she was about 75 years old. Her interests included hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, traveling, crocheting, crafts, gardening. She had great pride in her lawn that she kept as green as lreland. Her passion for bowling would also include involvement in the following: A member of WIBC, President of the WIBC, Director of USBC & WIBC, Secretary of Punch & Judy Leagues. Her skill with crafting was used to decorate the banquets for the WIBC for the last 40 years. She had a wonderful smile and laugh. She was generous to a fault, Venus just couldn't say no to someone in need. Her work ethic was fierce and hard to keep up with. She always gave 100% and more. She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Steve) Caldwell, sons Bruce (Jody) Miller and Douglas Miller, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7,2012 at the Show Low Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1401 West Deuce of Clubs, Show Low, AZ. lnterment will follow in the Show Low Cemetery. The family would like to thank Hospice for the tender and loving care they gave Venus and her family during her final journey in this life.
