Donald Leonard Martinez

May 31, 1948 — May 10, 2012

Donald Leonard Martinez died Thursday, May 10, 2012 in Holbrook, Navajo County, Arizona at the age of 63. Donald was born on May 31, 1948 in Keams Canyon, on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona to the late Tommy Rueben and Lillian Jean (Russell) Martinez. While a young man, Don enlisted in The U.S. Army and served during the height of the Vietnam War. When he returned home he came home to a hero's welcome. Throughout his life, Don particularly loved his family and friends and he enjoyed caring for children. Don was an outspoken individual who always had a smile whenever he shared his opinion. He was a man who loved to laugh, too. One of Don's greatest joys in life came whenever he was fishing! He had several "favorite" fishing spots throughout the area. He lived the life of a rancher and was a true cowboy. He enjoyed very much that life and it was evident as he cared for his stock. Don was a helpful and giving person who was never selfish with his time or talents. Don is survived by his daughter, Tara Lynn Martinez of Second Mesa, Arizona; 3 grandchildren; 6 siblings: Donna Myers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Rebecca Martinez of Parker, Arizona, Ronald Martinez of Pruitt, New Mexico, Maxine Tsosie of Indian Wells, Arizona, Colleen Martinez of Jeddito, Arizona, Leonard Martinez of jeddito, Arizona as well as many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 212 E. Arizona Street in Holbrook, Arizona with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning 1 hour prior. The committal service and interment will follow at the Holbrook Cemetery.
