Shawnee Rustin, Sr.

Shawnee "Shine" Rustin, Sr., of Cibecue, Navajo County, Arizona peacefully passed away May 4, 2012 in Show Low, Navajo County, Arizona. He was 77. Shawnee was born to the late Coland and Bessie (Nachu) Rustin on May 15, 1934 in Whiteriver, Navajo County, Arizona. Shawnee served in the United States Air Force during WWII as a Paratrooper before being honorably discharged for his service. Shine had a love for the outdoors that allowed him to tell many stories to his family about his many hunting trips throughout the reservation. A loving father and grandfather his family meant the world to him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and teasing them. His family has many stories and great memories of the time they spent with him. Shine is survived by his son, Shawnee Rustin Jr. of Cibecue, Arizona; daughters, Shyanne (Travis Sr.) Tessay of Cibecue, Arizona, Dorcie Kay Schlatman of Queen Creek, Arizona; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Rustin of Cutter, Arizona, Margie Moses of Bylass, Arizona as well as a brother, Earl (Greta) Ethelbah of Whiteriver, Arizona. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Eleanor Rustin, Avillia E. Hoskie as well as 2 brothers, Kasey Ethelbah Sr. and Otto Rustin. A two night wake will be held 10:00AM Friday May 11, 2012 at the family home, E. 2nd St. House #9, Cibecue, Arizona. Home services will be held 10:00AM Sunday May 13, 2012 with interment to follow in the Chiefton Cemetery, North Fork, Arizona with Military Honors rendered by the VFW Post# 2364 Pinetop/Lakeside and the American Legion Post #60 Whiteriver.
