LaSchelle Dowdle Schneider

June 28, 1958 — April 30, 2012

Loving wife, mother & grandmother; fun-loving, service-oriented peace-maker LaSchelle Dowdle Schneider, 53, of Snowflake, Arizona, passed away after a lifetime filled with laughter and service on April 30, 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona, LaSchelle grew up in Arizona's Gila Valley, the youngest of six daughters of the late Earl Britton Dowdle and surviving Roxie Allred Dowdle. She was born June 28, 1958 in Safford, Arizona. A helpful and fun-loving youngster, LaSchelle was rarely seen without a smile on her face. She used her boisterous, larger-than-life personality to brighten any room. She was blessed with a pleasant disposition and a generous sense of humor, which she used to make those around her happy. Those traits lasted her entire life. A cheerleader and volleyball player at Thatcher High School, she attended Thatcher's Eastern Arizona College where she graduated with an associate's degree in Special Education, a degree her husband Steve joked was "how she dealt with me." LaSchelle met her sweetheart, Steven Dale Schneider, in a Family Home Evening group at Arizona State University's LDS Institute of Religion. Following the couple's first date she wrote in her journal that she had met her future husband. The two were married for time and all eternity in the Mesa Temple on July 13, 1979. For the past 30 years LaSchelle has lived in Snowflake, Arizona, where she and Steve raised four loving and considerate children in a happy & fun-filled home. A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she attended the Snowflake 9th Ward, where she served valiantly in callings including Nursery, Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society, as well as in the Snowflake Temple. Her three sons served honorable missions and all three as well as her daughter are happily married for the eternities. A fan of sports of all kinds, LaSchelle took great pleasure in helping her husband and her sons golf for Snowflake High School, and for the past 27 years has been the beloved "team mom" of the Lobo golf team. LaSchelle's life was spent in the service of others; her large extended family, her loving friends and neighbors, members of her church, students she taught as a substitute teacher, as well as the many golfers at the Snowflake Community Golf Course, where her husband serves as Golf Pro. She had a gift for peace-making that she strove her entire life to fulfill. A devoted and loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, LaSchelle cherished spending time with loved ones, and attending family reunions, where she was typically the life of the party. She was a favorite aunt to dozens of nieces and nephews who she adored, and a doting grandmother to her nine wonderful grandchildren who she spoiled rotten. They loved to hear her ask, "Whose bunzies are those?" To which they'd respond, "Grandma Schelle!" She enjoyed gardening, particularly geraniums and yellow crooked-neck squash, and favored spicy Mexican food. Another favorite activity was traveling, which she enjoyed doing with family and friends. LaSchelle will be fondly remembered and missed by her loving husband Steve; her mother Roxie Allred Dowdle; three sons, Steven Adam (Jenessa Goodman) of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Derrick Kent (Darci Weaver) of Mesa, Arizona, and Creston Dowdle (Cynthia Spittle) of Morenci, Arizona; one daughter Brittany (Haven McCall) of Lehi, Utah; and nine grandchildren, Peyton, Brylee, Braydon, Kaylee, Mayson, Coby, Chloe, Camden & Cade. She's also survived by five sisters, Candace (Boyd) Nielsen, Roxanne (Ron) Larsen, Kim (Jerry) Pace, Patricia (Steve) Allen, and Denise (Art) Mullenaux. A viewing will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday - May 6, 2012, at Owens Livingston Mortuary - Heritage Chapel, 84 E. 19th South, Snowflake, Arizona as well as one hour prior to services at the church.
