Marie Gregg

September 5, 1923 — March 16, 2012

On Friday, March 16, 2012 at Whiteriver, Navajo County, Arizona, Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and sister-in-Christ, Marie Nancy De Hose-Gregg took her last breath here on this earth and claimed her reward as a beautiful guardian angel in The Lord's glorious army. Marie was 88 years old. "Our Father who art in Heaven; Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done" is a prayer given to us all by The Lord Jesus Christ and, it was also a prayer that was instilled within the heart of our dear mother and grandmother, which made her a stronger believer in the Power of The Lord's Prayer. She also used as a shield of her Christian faith the words that are found in The New Testament Book of The Holy Bible, Ephesians 6:10, "...a final word; be strong and in His mighty power put on God's armor so that you will stand firm." Throughout her long and blessed life, Marie loved to work with her hands. She was skilled with many talents and loved to do beadwork on a regular basis as well as basket weaving and she had an incredible talent making cradle boards for not only her sweet babies and grand-babies, but many dozens of others as well. Her skills allowed her the privilege to teach Apache Arts and Crafts at JTPA. She worked for many years at the JTPA Vocational Skills Center in Cibecue. Also in Cibecue, Marie supervised many ladies for the Johnson O'Malley Program which dealt with the elderly folks of Cibecue. She truly lived her Christian values as she so lovingly gave to others in great need. Her caring gentle smile as well as her giving attitude will be missed by so many. In her younger years, Marie was also a cook for the Old Government Day School in Cibecue. She and her late husband, George Gregg, Sr., loved to farm and plant all kinds of vegetables and other vegetation that were regular award-winning entries at the White Mountain Apache tribal fairs. They also grew many apple trees, pear trees and cherry trees at their home in Cibecue. In the early 1950s, Marie and her late husband, George, would go on many horseback excursions gathering acorns! They would ride wagons and also go by horseback from N. Young Road at the Reservation Line to the Red Lake Mill. She loved being outdoors atop the horses and was an expert horsewoman in all of her travels. Marie also had some other bragging rights; She was the oldest member of Cibecue's Gethsemane Lutheran Church's Choir and was the oldest classmate to be certified in ACTS (Apache Christian Training School)! Next to The Lord, Marie loved her family. She never tired to tell a story chalk full of wisdom and added humor whenever appropriate. She naturally was a very shy individual...until she got to know you. Then you were her best friend and she would share anything and everything with you! Very devout in her faith, Marie always attended church services on Sunday. She would regularly walk 4-5 miles to attend those worship services. She always stood firm in the word of The Lord. She would regularly say, "That's why my family were such good Christians; because I walked so faithfully that great distance every week." With the love that she had for The Lord, just 3 weeks prior to her death, Marie hiked to the top of Cibecue Mountain to see the cross that sits atop there and had her last picture taken there. It is now considered one of her family's choicest treasure. It is also noted that just literally in her last days in this life, she truly saw angels who where a tremendous source of strength to her and a peaceful comfort to her family. Marie is survived by her: 2 sisters: Rena De Hose-Gregg, Joan De Hose Susan; 2 brothers: Levi De Hose, Jonas De Hose; 3 sons: Wilkie Gregg, Sr., Dallas Gregg, Hershall Gregg, Sr.; 5 daughters: Belva Henry, Geneva Gregg, Tina Henry, Xena Cromwell and Christine March. Marie was also blessed with many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, whom too, will miss her a great deal. Marie was loved by many people both near and far and her family kindly request your presence to her home wake and church funeral service, as you all meant so much to her. Marie's family will be welcoming her earthly remains as they will be brought back to her home (where she lived and shared many memorable moments with the ones she loved) and orchard at Gregg's Crossing, N. Cromwell Road in Cibecue for a 2 day wake on Friday, March 23, 2012 beginning at 10:00 A.M. While there, those whom would like may express their final good-byes with a special family escort on both Friday and Sunday. Her funeral service will begin 1:30 P.M., Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Cibecue Cottonwood Gymnasium and will be officiated by Pastor Gary Lupe of the Cibecue Gethsemane Lutheran Church where she devoted her entire Christian life as a faithful member. Her concluding service and final resting place will follow at the Gregg's Family Plot.
