John Leonard Locke, of Lakeside, Navajo County, Arizona passed away peacefully March 14, 2012 in Lakeside. He was 86. John was born to the late Henry and Sarah Martha (Rediker) Locke in Fort Fairfield, Aroostook County, Maine on September 29, 1925. John attended school in Maine and following his graduation from high school he enlisted in the military. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater in World War II while serving for the United States Navy. Following his service in the Navy he served in the Air Force Reserves and then for the United States Army National Guard. While in the National Guard, John served as a Civil Service Engineer and retired from service as a Master Sergeant after 35 years. John served the local communities of Pinetop/Lakeside for many years as a volunteer Police Officer and as a volunteer for Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low. He served as a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a 4th Degree Night of Columbus with St. Theresa Assembly at Saint Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. John married the love of his life, Gloria Mae Morin, at the St. John's Cathedral in Bangor, Maine in 1948 and enjoyed 64 wonderful years of marriage before his passing. A loving husband, father and grandfather he truly will be missed by all. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday March 21, 2012 at the Saint Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 1915 Penrod Lane, Pinetop, Arizona. Inurnment will follow in the Angels Rest Columbarium at Saint Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. John is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Locke of Lakeside, Arizona; daughter, Carolyn M. Dunten of Enterprise, Alabama; sons, David J. Locke (Renee') of Tucson, Arizona, Robert M. Locke (Kay) of Pinetop, Arizona; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a nephew, Richard Alley (Stephanie) of Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Dunten and a brother and sister. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the White Mountain Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1975, Lakeside, Arizona 85929 or to the Paralyzed Vets of America, 7 Mill Brook Rd, Wilton, New Hampshire 03086. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
