Alyce Marie Mace died just as the sun was setting on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at her home in Show Low, Navajo County, Arizona following a lengthy illness at the age of 80. Alyce was born on July 30, 1931 in Pasadena, California to the late Burton Halvor and Alvira Alice (Essley) Durby. Alyce was a beloved mother and grandmother. It has been said of her that "she couldn't get enough of those grandkids!" She worked with children at church throughout most of her life. Alyce also worked at the church college for many years as an educational administrative assistant. Alyce loved being outside and enjoyed working in her garden. As a young girl and woman, she learned to love plants, in all their varieties, from her father. Even after his passing, Alyce was always on the lookout for a new type of plant that she could plant in her own garden; adding to its beauty. She truly was blessed with an incredible "green thumb" and all of her neighbors benefited from her garden labors. This dynamic woman will be greatly missed by everyone whom have ever had the privilege to call her: mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Alyce is survived by her 4 children: Martha Mace of Show Low, Arizona, Craig Mace of Mesa, Arizona, Dan Mace of Poway, California, Matt Mace of Show Low, Arizona; 2 brothers: Burton Durby of Peoria, Arizona, Dace Durby of Round Mountain, California; 1 sister, Barbara McFadden of Phoenix, Arizona; 2 grandchildren: Jason Mace and Emalee Mace. Her funeral service will begin 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 9, 2012 at the New Life Community Church of The Nazarene, 601 Clark Road in Show Low, Arizona where the public visitation will begin 1 hour prior. The concluding service and interment will be held later that afternoon at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, Arizona.
