Marlin Edgar Hurst Sr., of Show Low, Navajo County, Arizona passed away peacefully February 13, 2012 at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low. He was 82. Marlin was born on September 3, 1929 in Faxton, Comanche County, Oklahoma to the late Wilmer Marlin and Clara (Trull) Hurst. Marlin was a veteran of the United States Navy where he was stationed in Guam for 4 years. Following his service, Marlin moved back to the United States and on August 14, 1953 he married the love of his life, Shirley Thomas in Long Beach, California. They enjoyed almost 59 wonderful years of marriage before his passing. Marlin worked for the United States Postal service in Scottsdale, Arizona for 35 years before his retirement. Marlin also worked as a Silversmith for Hodson's Gem Shop in Scottsdale for nearly 20 years. An avid outdoorsman he loved to hunt, camp and fish. He enjoyed nothing more than going to Big Lake and spending time with his family while there. Marlin also enjoyed gardening and was known to have one of the best gardens in the neighborhood. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather he will be missed by all who knew him. Marlin is survived by his beautiful wife of 59 years, Shirley Hurst of Show Low, Arizona; sons, Marlin E. Hurst, Jr. (Marla) of Idaho, Steven B. Hurst of Overgaard, Arizona, Timm P. Hurst of Scottsdale, Arizona; Von D. Hurst (Karen) of Gilbert, Arizona, Todd K. Hurst of Show Low, Arizona; grandchildren, Hailey, Timm Jr., Adam, Jennifer, Brandon; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Imogene Murray of Tempe, Janice Hurst of Texas as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sandy; sisters, Helen and Wanda as well as 2 brothers, Stanley and Telma. Private services are planned for a later date.
